Last Sunday, I awoke to a smell that made me climb right out of the seemingly bottomless pit I was buried in & opened the bedroom door to see what was infusing my nostrils with such a healing feeling. No, it wasn’t a bouquet of flowers, it was even better than that; it was an apartment that had the aura of the most beautiful garden. A strong Jade scented candle from Henri Bendel was burning and every inhalation was a dose of relief.
Scented candles, nostalgic smells, good perfume/cologne, etc. are things in life we enjoy without putting much thought into it; but there is more power in these sweet nothings than you may realize.
A brief Google search to confirm there was truth to my epiphany led to this statement:
“Some of the health benefits of aromatherapy include its ability to reduce anxiety, ease depression, boost energy levels, speed up the healing process, eliminate headaches, boost cognitive performance, induce sleep, strengthen the immune system, reduce pain, improve digestion, and increase circulation.”
The definition of aromatherapy is: “inhalation or bodily application (as by massage) of fragrant essential oils (as from flowers and fruits) for therapeutic purposes; broadly: the use of aroma to enhance a feeling of well-being”
In the past, I’ve received spa massages using essential oils without paying much attention to what the essential oils were; I just picked whichever one smelled better. Now, I’ll be experimenting with different essential oils for the natural health benefits and healing powers they offer. Stay tuned for future #aromatherapy posts.
